I have to have a "whaa, whaa" moment. I've been watching too many YT videos of folks metal detecting. Those lucky folk who live in areas where they can detect just about all year long. Plus, I just received my new detector about 2 weeks ago (bounty hunter IV) I know it's not much, but it'll serve me well IF and when our snow ever goes away. It's the most snow I've seen in my life, with temps so unreasonable, even a snowman would complain! I've been watching Beau Oulmetta's and Deep Digger Dan's videos, and I'm going crazy I tell ya! I haven't been detecting in about 3 years (broken leg, then the Garrett broke.) So yeah, LOL, after 3 years of not detecting, "now" I'm chomping at the bit? Here's my house, here's the snow, and we're just getting into March (snowiest month) More snow yet to come! And I wanna do my river, but I know it'll be too cold and way too high till July. The up side is, I can detect around our local casino. I can check areas where the snowplows pushed away lost coinage and possibly rings (from taking off gloves in the parking lot) I figure the plows pushed some things to the out lining banks of the parking lot (maybe ???)

Anyone got any other ideas for detecting when we hit the +30 degrees mark in in the midwest (MN, WI)? Or should I continue to just curl up by the fireplace and read detector magazine? (while driving my self crazy?) lol and stay away from YT videos! (I am an addict reborn!)

I hear ya! We don't have that much snow, but it just keeps snowing! And snowing, and the ground is frozen solid.
I feel like spring will never come! I've detected the snow pile got a quarter!
I figure a flame thrower on a tank may help!
Haven't watched any MD'ing videos yet, It would use up all the time allowed on my service....sigh...so I wait, and wait...and wait.......anyone seen spring?

Just saw a news headline, China's smog is nuclear winter. Is that what happened to global warming- blame China!

Hey MsbeepBeep, we got bad and extreme weather everywhere, China included.
The "global warming" situation can stay with the folk who acknowledge and dismiss it (heck with em both)
I just want some semblance of sanity restored, lol
I might go throw coins in my yard, just for something to do! lol

If you are really itching to detect, you can hunt sliding hills in the winter. Top and bottom of the hill are the most productive

Hang in there Alchemy, with the frost as deep as it is it may just push some goodies closer to the surface. In the meantime take deep breaths and wait it out....

We are still running water in our homes 24/7 to prevent line freezes......Northeastern Minnesota has had 3 months this winter that never got above zero. Still have plenty of snow on the ground and getting 4-6 inches today/tonite. Highs the next 5 days in the upper 20's. Maybe early July fer the first hunt ? At least where one can dig anyway. HH All !!

I feel your pain. Another wisconsinite here. I did some detecting this morning. Depending upon the amount of shade or I should say the amount of sun that hit the area of the signal I wanted to dig determined if the ground was still frozen. I was the first person to check (this year) the park and homes that I detected today. I am not into clad but the surface finds were everywhere. I did find a bag of jewelry. My bride said it must have been a hookers bag of jewelry because it had gawdy jewelry, birth control pills and other female items. I feel that in another week and the thaw should be okay to detect in the Milwaukee area.

I feel everyones pain here. I went out in the yard and poked around with a screwdriver and the best I could do was bout three inches where it gets a lot of sun. Hopefully another week or two and I may get to swing a little bit I hope.

Beautiful pic! looks like a relaxing place. Painful for a metal detector who has the bug. Hang in there we still have snow as well. Think of the snow as extra time to plan your hunts and hang out on T-Net :)
