got out with the ole Sniffster today.day started off rough, couldn't find a couple sites.back to drawing board we finally found one deep into the woods.if ya didn't know what to look for anyone could have easily walked right by this hole.barely room to swing but, near edge of old dirt road in front of cellar hole got a nice button type signal, dig down...cloaker cool! rub a lil and see the sunburst :o
no freakin way! my 3rd 1789 George Washington Inaugural Button! no shank but the detail is amazing i think for it's age and being in the ground all these years.
at this 1720 home i dug a flat button.most of gold gilt still intact both sides, a ring which seems to be some 1940's-50's tv show item(please chime in if anyone can identify it ) and a silver plated pewter mashed flat napkin ring? with the name ADIN engraved into it and decorative flowers going around it.
what a day!

Congrats on the Trifecta. Would love to be part of any GW button club.
Was thinking on the same lines as Sentinel on this-what state has had the most GW buttons pop up? i would assume that it would be in the more populated colonial states such as CT, PA, NJ,etc. Does anyone know if they have been found in all of the original 13 colonies? I am in SC and dont know of any off the top of my head-would definitely be in the Low Country like Charleston.
Just curious.

thanks guys for the banner votes.don't think it's gonna make it up there as there is already one up there :-[ anyways most of the GW's were made in Ct & Ma by button makers during that time.i'm sure they circulated throughout the original 13. Just think of how many detectorists are not members of internet forums and do not post their finds. so,i'm sure they have been found in all the 13 colonies just not advertised by whoever dug them.

WOW!! You're on a role in the GW department

Somewhere in a post a while back there was mention that these buttons
often times came in groups (of 4 ?) so. . . there might be another one
still out there :)

On that ring, you have a Joe E. Brown Grape-Nuts cereal premium ring
from 1936. . . very cool find :)

Nice GW button! Nice to see those, even if its Horribly Unlikely to find them in my area.

Comment if you would on how you cleaned this great relic?

Adding my vote for banner as well as everyone else's.

Great stuff...I love that they are all different ones. Does anyone know how many known varieties of GW buttons were made?

I'm sure you have but I would pound all three of those sites to death looking for more.

Good luck

to clean i heated 2 inches of perxoxide in a cofee cup to bubbling about a minute in microwave.
take button and plop it in.let it fizzle in the peroxide for 2 mins.took out and dipped a q-tip in peroxide and slowly massaged the face of button.dropped it in to peroxide again and used a soft toothbrush wet with peroxide to gently get off remaining crud stuck to it.let it dry and dabed a bit of vaseline onto fingertip and rubbed it on button front.pretty simple and no harm done i don't think.
