We see a lot of 'finds of a lifetime' posted on the banner. Though all amazing finds, few are worth more than a couple thousand dollars. Some finds have been worth in the tens of thousands range, a great little payday perhaps, but not life changing.

The question I pose to you is: would you post a truly life changing find (think Brasher Doubloon, NE or Willow Tree coinage, 1794 Silver Dollar, cache of gold, etc.)?

I might post a find after speaking with attorneys. I would certainly contact a few members here via PM for advice or identification.

depends on how life changing.

I definitely wouldn't cut any lawyers in though

they would be the ones with 90% if I did :(

Never trust a lawyer to keep it out of court.
that's where their $$$$$ Are

I did post a life changing find in 2001, but it was only worth four figures. It was still life changing though because that money allowed me to quit my job, eventually turning things in an entirely different direction.... a much MUCH MUCH!! better one. I'm still short of near a million dollars of being a millionaire :) but the change wasn't totally about money, it was just a good all-around switch.

Really? What did you find Patch?

Just a button I've posted on here many times. As I said it wasn't worth a fortune, just enough to have some cash and quit my job.

I'll dig the $200,000 find this Fall! :headbang:

I've made a few great finds and never post them or even mention them or ordinary gold or platinum rings. I don't need a pat on the head and have a suspicion that some of the finds are faked as some need the pat on the head. Its nobodies business but mine and I don't do this detecting for profit, only fun. NRA#.JPG

I dont think people post pics of their finds to get a "pat on the head". I love to come on here and check out the stuff that people are finding.

I agree, I love seeing what people are finding. Don't take that the wrong way Tom, I do see it sometimes (people just looking for attention). I have seen several people post things that obviosuly aren't true too.

No way would I announce something that could be worth anything. The laws are different here. If anything of historical significance is found, according to the law, it belongs to the Government and it will be confiscated. No compensation either. A man found an Astrolabe from the 1500s off our coast in the mid 80s and the archaeologists had the police on him so fast, he didn't know what was happening. Then he found another and again the same thing occurred. He could have easily gotten over $100 grand but he wanted the artifact to stay here....Even though I'm passionate about our history but if I thought it would be confiscated by the Government, then I would try to sell it on the black market...It is not about the money, but if you're going to be treated unfairly, then you're better off looking after number one....Yourself!

I don't, and won't post the good stuff.

Average rings and stuff sure- but not my great find.

The greater your find, the more people in line to try and take it. Everyone from lost relatives to Uncle Sam's gorillas.
