One minute happy to be digging Victorian coppers, then bang !!!. This I think is special, very special. Not sure of the age, but guessing ancient. There's six faces on the find, it appears to be wearing an helmet. It is solid cast, in bronze, and heavy. Time for a well earned pint of mead, one thinks.

Robert.

Ohhh, i don't know what it is but it's cool. To small for a mace and the spout looks a bit weird. Hope it's something old! A find what makes anyones day! Pint well deserved!

Sure do! Could it be a fancy walking stick handle?
That's what i thought, when I first dug it Westfront. When I got it home, and removed a little soil, I changed my mind. Looks very old, and the noses either side of the faces, look like cheek guardes for an helmet. will have to send some pictures to the British Museum.

Can you post updated pics once you have it cleaned up and also post the length, diameter at the busts and diameter of the hole where it may fit onto a Flagpole or Staff? Thanks!

I am as confident as you are that it is truly old and thus am going ahead with a Banner vote even before the Museum verifies what it is and it's possible age!

Cheers Huntsman, the wife as just made me take it out of the house. It's making the hairs on the back of her neck stick up.

Wow - what an amazing find! Congratulations!!:hello2:
This might be a bronze representation of Lugus- A Celtic God, also known as Lugos, Lleu, Lug, Lugh, Lugus: The Shining One or The Shadowy One. Multi-headed deity popular during the Gallo-Roman period in Britain.

Love to hear what the museum says!
