on a whim I stopped and asked permission at a place a few miles from my home. not an old house, but looked like an old yard with a couple of big oak trees. Found my first flying eagle cent ;D haven't cleaned anythin except under running water, any tips on how to clean the flying eagle and the button? also, does anyone know the era of the button? thanks for looking all. Griff

Some nice stuff. The button is a US artillery button and is precivil war. It dates in the 1840's or so. The 1872 is a rarer date a dug coin will be worth less than a nondug one but nondug that coin would be worth about $500 maybe more. I wouldn't clean either coin anymore.
