Well got to a site this morning and found it crawling with zombies ( pay to detect, internet detecting club). These are becoming a real pain. Can't blame the farmer, money talks. Had to move to another site, that sometimes gives up the odd find. Very quickly found this, and then nothing else in the rest of the search. It's silver and hand made, showing the letters HC. It's just short of one inch in height, the back is plain and as no fixings.

Robert.

HC, is the abbreviation of "Honoris Causa", Latin for "For the sake of honour". Could still though be someones initials.

Robert.

That looks pretty early ! (1790's - 1820's) by the style of engraving /workmanship , is the lower right portion of the C broken ?

Nice piece.

How thick ? what is it's complete width & Height ?

Due to the fact it looks like the lettering on an `1870's Love Token.
I'm just curious if it's cut from a half dollar.

It is a nice find anyway you look at it,

Hi Jeff,

Nice to hear from you. The thickness is 0.63 mm, had to use my old micrometer (used to roll stainless steel for a living, sometimes down to 0.38 mm, a finished coil was nearly 2 miles long). Height and width are both about 21mm.

Robert.

Had it under the glass again, you're correct, the end of the C bottom right is missing.

Robert.

OK so it's smaller then a Quarter, If I'm understanding my MM's then

but too thin to be a quarter unless it was hammered.

well anyway interesting find

The more I look, the more letters I see. I'm not sure but looks like a combo of E H I ???

That is an awesome find. Have the field Blessed maybe it will keep the living dead away. Yeah money talks, but it never makes a sound when it's in the ground and I 'm looking for it...go figure!

Could be Cru, hard to be sure. How old do you think it is ?.

Robert.

I just had a thought that I had found something similar many years ago before I joined Tnet. No idea where I found it, but when I got it out - SNAP!

So I think we can rule out someones initials! No idea on age I'm going wide on this & guessing 18th-19th C??

Thats a good find for sure. The zombies huh. I dont see that problem here, just raiders of my tot lots. But the ol F75 goes a little faster and deeper so they just gleaning for me. Silver and gold is what its all about, I love it.

The H may be an M instead. See the diagonals leading from the uprights that meet at the lower bar of the E?

That crossed my mind as well so, maybe EMI or combos of....However, what is the crossbar above the centre bar of the E?

Sorry, duplicated post. Dunno how that happened. See below:
