What an exciting year. I learned so much during the first year of detecting here on Okinawa that I applied all that knowledge and really put forth the effort for this year to attain much higher goals.

I even had a friend this year (Jason) who did a lot of hunting with me, and I spread the knowledge around with him as well. Together, we dominated this island with a lot of vigor and the results showed it for me.

Last year was pretty good, but I was a noob and really had to learn how the beaches here differed from the beaches back in the US. Man... it's different, but in a good way.

So here's my totals for this year, followed by pictures for you to drool over.

Total hunts for this year: 89
Average hunting time: 2.5 hours
Total Yen count: 180,436 ($2,255 @ 80 yen to the dollar)
Total silver count: 700 grams (22.5 ounces)-- Over 100 silver rings
Gold total: 21 pieces
Platinum rings: 6
Numerous junk rings (I don't post junk)

By the numbers--- Averaged 2,027 yen per hunt ($25)
Averaged a gold or platinum piece of jewelry every 3.3 hunts (every 8.25 hours of hunting)

Total melt value of gold/platinum/silver finds.... $655 (silver), $254 (10k), $1,555 (14k), $1,078 (18k), $971 (platinum)= $4,513

That puts my yeasr total at $6,768

Thanks for celebrating with me this year, and I hope next year is even more amazing. Enjoy the pictures!!!!

Wow! What do swing mostly? Find any small chains without a pendant?

You certainly had a good year!! Congratulations!!

Well done, congratulations!!!!

Great haul of treasure...you have a great place to hunt...wish our coins had that much value...did any of the rings have stones?...congrats on an outstanding year.

Thanks guys! I'm thankful to have an island to hunt that doesn't get much attention. Guess I should stop posting then huh? I'll attract too much attention.

Some of the rings have small diamonds, that might add up to a gram or two of weight. Mostly they're just plain bands with no extras. Seems the Japanese don't like a lot of frilly stones. The few I do have with them seem to be lost by Americans based on the size or hallmarks.

Great digs there Bobbypins by applying your knowledge! The results show! This is your home or service related?

Niiiice, especially from foreign places nice to see your doing well!!

HH :)

You guys had a great year! And thank you for showing me around the island.

Wow..... I have followed a lot of your post and seeing your totals are awesome, Congrats, Big Time. I would love to trade with ya, but my Girlfriend wouldn't go for living outside the US right now, she makes too much money..LOL, I guess I'll just have to sit back and dream and enjoy your post about finding your treasures, LFG

Know wonder I havent herd you on here lately you were saving up to hit us with a huge one all at once. I almost had a hart attack. Dedication and hard work pays off.

You have had a great year .... really nice finds. I agree wished we had large dollar coins. I remember in Germany we used to have up to 20 mark pieces.... can you imagine having a $20 coin??? I wished we had more of those PL floating around out there.

Congratulations.....that's quite the haul....if I did the math properly that works out to $30.00 and change per hour of detecting....
Not bad for doing something you enjoy and considered a hobby.

Nice to see your finds, BB. I was down in Oki for some karate training in May but was escorting a Canadian group and had no time to swing a coil. Had a look at some of your beaches, though. Still, I can relate to your finds and wish you further success.

I didn't get that far in the calculating, but those numbers sound great! I guess if I figure in how long it takes to really clean all the coins, it drops the hourly rate down, but who cares. The total for 2 years of hunting is in excess of $10,000

I'm considering taking a job on the Japanese mainland. It's on the coast. Is there any laws against metal detecting the beaches there?

While I'm in Okinawa (about a 2 hour flight to Tokyo), I know you can detect up in mainland Japan. The competition for this hobby is pretty small. You'll do great up there.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I should know any day now. Waiting for my passsport renewal.
