Golden Penny

Not sure what to make of this 2001D penny I found in my third roll while CRH a box of pennies. It is golden yellow. I put it next to two normal pennies for contrast. Any ideas? I did a couple Google searches but couldn't find anything.

wish I could help ya, I find those from time to time and used to put them aside but now I just toss them back. it would be sweet if you could find that color in all the post 1982 years though and make a set

Probably someone just trying to get some 'extra zinc'. If zinc pennies are left in water for a while they have a tendency to brighten before they corrode.
