Something I just learned the other day, in PA, any and ALL properties are able to be researched and you can actually aquire a copy of not only the plot map, but a copy of the deed, history of deeds, and a variety of other things by simply talking to register of deeds in the county seat. I am in Beaver County and was actually trying to obtain a copy of a deed for a family member when i was told this by a woman who had been in the department for the last 30 years. With a parcel number you can look everything up yourself or with a name and address they can get a copy of the deed for you (free of charge) and you can go from there. Since have gotten 3 copies of plot maps and deeds for some pld properties I been wanting to go check out but seemed no one had the slightest clue who owned em anymore. These books are invaluble to find old farms, groves, etc. They are arranged in a manner that you will need the assistance of someone at the office at first. Once you see how the organization is, you can be quite effecient. The one problem I have is when a Doctor claimed alot of land by means of providing health care for land. That creates a logjam that can be difficult to get out of unless you read each deed. Usually it costs a minimal fee for copies. You can view original plans and original surveys if you are dilligent. Highway dockets, also are a good source, they are not always in the Recorder of Deeds. They will reference going along creek to XXX's house. Now you need to find where that house was. But once your on the trail, clues will start to appear. I could spend weeks at a time in our local courthouses.

This gave me a great idea. The assessment sight is an awsome research tool. I did a search on any road in my town. I just entered the name of the road in the search, i.e Buffalo for buffalo Rd. This pulled up all the houses listed on this particular road. I opened every one up and looked for houses that were built in the eary 1900 and before. Well, I got carried away on every road and ended up with my own data base with dates, pictures and addresses of all the old houses in my town. Try it, its still winter...............

I've been searching some houses here in schuylkill county, friends, family, etc. and some list 1900 as when it was built. If it was built before 1900 any idea if it would show up or do you think 1900 is as far back as recorded?

I Wonder IF in some Cases the house Burned & Was Replaced in 1900
Or if They Couldn't find Records so they guessed 1900

There are Many listed with early 1800 dates & Even some
mid 1700's Listed.
