On a day that had a quite a variety of finds, this was the favorite. Was wondering if this was something that every military person would have included in their dress uniform ?

Thanks,

Rick that sure is a beauty...can't wait to hear about the history on this one...

That is amazing. Looks like something king arthur would wear. :o

What Military is that from, looks English ? ??? I don't think every solider would have Sterling on their uniform, but that's just a guess... :dontknow: Maybe an officer of some type. :icon_scratch:

Great find !! :notworthy: :headbang: :hello2:

Keep @ it and HH!! ;D :D

Nice find Rick! Are you sure that it's a cufflink? Looks like a sweetheart pin!

Man you get replies fast on here !

Actually Romeo I thought you would be the one to tell me about it, as I don't know. It is a lot smaller than yours, and it has a stem on the back with a button thingy. To top the off a guy in the service told me it was a cufflink. That's all I know. Here is a picture showing the back, sort of. Plus it's clean now.

Both your find and Romeo's finds are great. I do not think it is a cufflink either, without a backside photo, hard to say, but more like a hat or lapel pin... But, that sure is one beautiful relic!

I would almost bet on it being a WWI era sweetheart pin. Can you post a pic of the back? How about a pic of the other finds too?

I did add a picture of the back, scroll up a bit. The other finds were unrelated and probably junk, modern coins etc. I got a nice gold ring two days previous though. It has been my best week !

Rick I love it, a unique relic thanks for showing us ! I hope we do get some kind of background on it from you or someone who can ID it MaineRelic.

That is really nice, never seen one quite like that before. Congrats on an unusual find!

Looks more like a collar stud

I ran the motto off of the badge through Google.

One hit got this on Wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honi_soit_qui_mal_y_pense

Just add Http// in front of the above line.

Order of the Garter. You guys have some nice finds. Be sure and read down about the military units that also use the same motto.

The shield is the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom. I gather the harp is for Ireland, the single lion is Scotland and the three lion groups must be England and Wales or a combination there of. One of the Brits on here might be able to explain it. A little more research may indicate what the Empire means on the badge.

The 3 Lions of England (Wales is a Dragon)

I did some research and the best thing I can think of is ask the experts at http://www.britishbadgeforum.com because they seem to have a lot of that kind of thing there and may know what it is exactly.

They may know but its not a cap badge, lappel or shoulder badge. (in the military sense)
