Hit East Ocean View today with The Guru. Max was MIA as he had to take care of some honey-do-list items.

Had two items I haven't yet ID'd. The first looks like the end cap to a copper pipe (it is solid copper and heavy) with some sort of heat dissipation around it. The other is some sort of "stem" that I believe came from an old oil lamp from the 1800's that is marked with "Klopfel and Sons" "Erfurt". I know Erfurt is in central Germany. Any ideas of what they are and how old they may be, feel free to comment. Will probably post them in the "What Is It" section later. Thanks for looking!

Update: Think we have the oil lamp stem ID'd but the copper end cap is still stumping me and others.....placed it in the what is it form to see what we can find out and added some better pictures.

Thought so, thanks for your input CRUSADER! Believe the company is from the mid 1800's (1850's-1870's). Still need to do some more research...unless someone beats me to it!

The copper thing has a nice heat sink around it, for some reason a gas appliance popped into my mind when I first saw it. After watching the Hitler Video about metal detecting I suspect the 'Erfurt' knob may have come from an early design of a U-Boat that sunk there. (don't believe everything you see on the internet)....................63bkpkr :tongue3:
