I think I found a really old coin.

Not sure what I've found here. It sure looks like an old Roman coin, but, I'm not really in an area where they are commonly found. Found this coin in a field in western Bavaria, about 7 inches down. May be hard to see from the pics but it appears there are some spikes on the head, maybe a wreath. On the back it looks like someone standing in a cape.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

It could be a Kryptonian Coin,, maybe with an image of Superman??

Yes this is a Roman DUPONDIUS probably about AD135-215 depending on weight and size etc. Usually these will be from 9-15gm weight about 25-29mm diameter and around 3mm+ thick.

Looks similar to coins AD138-178 under Marcus Aurelius or Antoninus Pius. There are many reverses but might be one of the Seated varieties.

Wow I'm amazed I beat my old record by 500 years. It does look like the Pius coin, it has the spikes. It weighs 9.65. Thanks for the info.

if a American find ..old Victorian era coin collectors often collected roman coins as a way of showing that they had money to "blow" on collecting old antique stuff ..it was a sort of status hobby back then...

but if a European find romans ranged far and wide as did their money for a long long time ...

I would slightly disagree with the reverse type, I think I see the signs of a single figure left, not seated??
