Standing half dollar

1918 standing half dollar found near an old swimming hole yesterday. I'm headed back there this morning as I didn't have a lot of time yesterday.

The light "field clean" I did the coin looked pretty good. The at home soak with a soft tooth brush really made apparent how beat up the coin really is. Oh well it's still a half dollar

Gorgeous!! My first one was a 1917 found 2 inches down in a friend's garden. I thought it was a crushed can the way it sounded off but I dug it anyway. I am glad I did everything even though it wears me out quicker. Some of my best finds sounded like junk. Congratulations!

Halves are not that common. Probably they were large enough to be easily found if dropped, and valuable enough so they weren't dropped often. Nice find!

I always thought that in the parts if the country the have colder Winter's a good percentage of Half Dollars were lost / dropped when there was snow on the ground.
The snow would make them very hard or even impossible to find.
