I just returned from a couple of days in the Low Country of SC, with Tnetter Bergie. We were detecting an old roadway and I found what I thought was a Spanish silver, however closer examination revealed a horse and rider. I believe it is a silver flat button with no shank. You can see a square spot on the back where I believe a shank was located.

Here is where it gets good, some people believe that this might be a loyalist SC Dragoon button from the Revolutionary War. It’s diameter is .79” and it weighs 1.1 grams.

Above is the link to where the last guy found one.

Any ID information is most appreciated.

I’m just glad that I found an old piece of silver. I will get the rest of the finds cleaned and posted tomorrow.

Thanks for looking and good luck on your hunts.

Wow Tom!! That's a heck of find and will be hard too top.
Sure would look nice on top! I'm sure you are tickled pink. I know I would be. Congratulations Buddy , bet you were a site too see.

I knew it was silver, and old, but I thought it was an equine button, for some rich guys riding jacket. I had no idea it might be something better, until Mangum mentioned Dragoons. The thread linked above seems to cast doubt on the ID. It’s all good either way, I had a lot of fun.

Thanks man. I appreciate all of your help. Without a positive ID it’s just a killer flat button IMO.

I'm sure some of the button experts here can shed some light on it for us. If it's the real deal, it needs to be on top.
Fingers crossed!

Sweet Find Tom!

Heck of a find, regardless. If it does turn out to be Rev War, it will get my vote.

Congrats.

The two hind legs are slightly different between the two buttons, but still a great find regardless of a positive ID on it.

It could be a variation or just fell off some fancy mans coat. Either way it’s a great find!

Very cool whatever it turns out to be - great trip dude - Waffle House rules!

I don't get on here much anymore but that's a Killer find! Congratulations Tom

Awesome find, congratulations! :icon_thumleft:

Great find. A Silver button is some kind of cool. Good luck on the ID. hoping this could be a banner find for you.

would be a nice Christmas gift for Smittyman :laughing9:

MEGA SUPER button :notworthy::award_star_silver_1

It looks like the real deal to me. Really hard to beat a find like that.

She’s a looker
Congrats

Fantastic find Tom! VMI Digger (Jon) found one that was either brass or pewter-maybe he'll chime in.
