I finally got some help from a ground hog this weekend. In the first picture you can see the ground hog hole and the dirt pile. I always check these but rarely find anything. This time I got a perfect large cent signal on my Deus - steady 95 in all directions and shallow. I marked the spot by scraping a little dirt, then I took a picture.

Turned out to be a half decent 1837 Large Cent

Found a few other things over the weekend - Piece of shoe buckle, cuff link with a design I can't figure out, couple flat buttons, large PA State Seal button, and type set piece with letter D.

I can't figure out what the heck is on this cuff link. It came from a late 18th C site and is heavier than most and slightly convex.

Talk about detecting hazards! This lightning rod tip has 5 needle sharp points. I poked my finger on one of them.

After extracting this hellish device, I checked the hole again and found this Pennsylvania State Seal button from shortly after the Civil War.

Finally, not far from the lightning rod piece and the State Seal button, I dug this perfect circa 1910 sash buckle at about 14 inches deep.

Very nice hunt and a large cent in good shape...:occasion14:

Interesting assortment of recoveries you got there. The largie is my favorite, but the sash buckle is really nice as well. Did the 200+ year old lightening rod draw blood? Have you felt different since the incident? I think this is how super powers are acquired. Congrats on your finds!

The lightning rod part is probably mid to late 1800s. It may have drawn blood before, but not mine. At one time, this was discarded in the grass, and kids were running around in their bare feet!

Dude you stole his coin you should be ashamed lol

What are the chances...

Love all the other finds too. Great hunt.

Nah, he missed that LC. But now I am wondering what I can plunder from his burrow :laughing7:

Nice hunts, congratulations on all the saves

A groundhog can find a large cent with his bare claws and I can't find one with the latest technology. :dontknow:

Is that a lightning rod or one of those things to keep pigeons off your house?

Well that's pretty cool. Maybe you and Mr. Ground Hog should become partners. He's already proven he can find the old stuff...

If I could just get him to dig in certain spots I know some good stuff would come up!

Sometimes even a blind groundhog finds a large cent :laughing7:

I would feed him the best organic carrots if he would just dig where I want him to.

Well I don't know for sure. I have seen similar pieces called lightning rod parts.

Mr. Diggity Dawg has been showing his Ugly Little face around here on the farm........The day he can show me a big penny is the day he might be able walk!! MAYBE!!! Nice snag Steve :occasion14:

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Nice digs! Now if you could just train that dirt pig to sniff out relics on all your sites.
