I finally got some help from a ground hog this weekend. In the first picture you can see the ground hog hole and the dirt pile. I always check these but rarely find anything. This time I got a perfect large cent signal on my Deus - steady 95 in all directions and shallow. I marked the spot by scraping a little dirt, then I took a picture.

Turned out to be a half decent 1837 Large Cent

Found a few other things over the weekend - Piece of shoe buckle, cuff link with a design I can't figure out, couple flat buttons, large PA State Seal button, and type set piece with letter D.

I can't figure out what the heck is on this cuff link. It came from a late 18th C site and is heavier than most and slightly convex.

Talk about detecting hazards! This lightning rod tip has 5 needle sharp points. I poked my finger on one of them.

After extracting this hellish device, I checked the hole again and found this Pennsylvania State Seal button from shortly after the Civil War.

Finally, not far from the lightning rod piece and the State Seal button, I dug this perfect circa 1910 sash buckle at about 14 inches deep.

Very cool finds and large cent. Thanks for the look!

I'd try to catch him, and take him along as your new digging partner ! Nice coin Steve. I like all those relics also.

I think I'll try to get down there this weekend and put some food outside his hole. What do groundhogs like to eat? Carrots?

Hi Steve, just a wild guess on the cufflink.....a beehive and bees?.....Joe McDonough

Joe, Thanks for your thoughts. So you're thinking the flying saucer looking thing in the center is a bee hive? Could be. Between the abstract design and the ground action it's just really tough to tell. I don't even know if I have it oriented correctly :dontknow:

Nice finds, Steve! I also always check those dirt piles but never really had any luck over em.
