My most interesting find of two days along the river. A very rusty and broken ax/hatchet. I have researched it and I can see many versions. I believe this one may once had a hammer/peen on the missing backside, but I can’t be sure… I found this near an area in the Pacific Northwest that had logging/trapping/wharf industrial activity. I plan on sanding away the rust…..

Blade is the shape of a broad axe used for squaring timber. The part that would have had the handle hole has been broken off.
Thanks Almy!

Excellent!
I should have put that it was a guess... unfortunately i don't have xray vision to see through the crud.
So... merely a guess by the look at it from here.

I’m looking for that ax/hatchet dating chart. I can’t find it.

without the eye its hard to put a hard date to it. but the hewing axe style looks right.
i cant say 100% its hand forged without seeing a forge lap, which with the rust, will be difficult to determine.

I added photos of ax head cleaned up. Other items: pickaroon, pick, possible ax and weight were also added as they were found on following day. Gemplers works like a charm!
