This is from the Barley Stubble Field Dad & I gained permission for this year. We knew it had been Night Hawked for 15 years+ but decided it was our turn to pile on the pressure

This does not include the 100s of plain buttons, blank coins, odd bits, & broken buckle pieces.

About 15 trips to cover 11 acres of land. (about 100 man hours effort)

This has been a great stop gap, as none of our good land has been harvested yet (due to heavy rain).

Went back to my old camera :D

Dang impressive Cru!!I am going to agree with you twice today!!!......J/K(I respect you)
Quote:Dad & I have always maintained a whiter than white approach with every owner, if we find it, they see it. Simple & honest pays everytime, if them dumb hawkers had done the same 15 years ago we might have had nothing little left to find & a bunch of "No's" from most of the farmers, who would already have a trusted detectorist. (most of our farms are exclusively ours & not because we choose it that way, its just the farmers preference). Good news travels fast in the farming community Wink

That is my motto and full of truth!!!

Good :icon_thumright:

Problem is, those that full into what I call the 'grey area', they do the halfway house, ie. gain permission & then only show the average stuff with the gold in their back pocket. These folk are wolves in sheep's clothing & in my opinion do just as much damage to our reputation (which is far from brilliant) as the theiving hawkers. :hello:

Right again, due to the fact my landowners are used to seein what I dig, they know what should be,and when they let somebody else in,and the totals dont add up,they know and its hell to pay for them!!

Exactly, I have known it work the other way, many times. ie. people have detected for years shown very little. Then a newbie honest guy turns up & on the first day shows more totals & quality than the others years of effort. At this point the farmer throws off the dishonest ********

Great Job Cru! :icon_thumleft:  There's so many centuries of history in Britain that you can just about put a coil down anywhere and find great finds. :headbang:

P.S. I like the way that catalog the coins. What do you keep them all in though?

I hope your joking about anywhere, I have thousands of acres with less than some of your worst fields. (ask Shaun7 about his land, you find more Geo's than him) :laughing9:

We just use the slips, to show the farmer & some will be given to him. The rest (which I need) will go in various coin albums.

This post was like a dream with all your finds and efforts. I am glad you are a member here.
I was just curious what this one landowner had to say when you recovered all that history. Was is surprising to him? I have hunted some places where I ended up giving everything to the landowners for a personal display. I enjoyed the hunt I guess

We have yet to book in any time with the owner. It will take a good hour to go over it all. I think he will be very surprised, he seemed clueless when we gained permission.
Good news for most of this type of new land is that because I now have a large collection, its easier for me to sacrifice pieces I already have. So this farmer will get a good chuck of these finds & of course a GPSed map of the field with where they came from.

As most farmers are busy, we try & only bother them once a field is complete, so although we have finished it in stubble state, I may return soon after the plough & try again. :dontknow:

No not really joking at all. With such a small island and literally thousands of years of history, its a numbers/statistical game. Especially when compared with a country like America that is only 400 years old and many times large, the odds of finding great things are very much in the favor of you chaps in England.

I spent 20+ years mostly just putting my coil down anywhere & I had hardly any great finds. Fact.

:dontknow: With the Celts, Anglos, Saxons, Vikings, Romans, Normans, etc etc. there's just ALOT of history in the ground there. With that said, I'm sure its just like any other place and there are some fields that are better than others.

This is my point, ask any Brit on here, there are thousands & thousands of acres of nothing out there. (populations were small)

Noted. However with that much history and people stuffed on such a tiny island combined with thousands of years of history.... statistically its hard to argue that there's not a much better chance of finding nice things when you go digging. Its not a slight against you just a statistical fact.

I didn't think it was, I just wanted to make sure people didn't think they could just come over here, pick a field at random & find good stuff, they would be very disappointed.

Okay just wanted to make sure as you're a friend of mine. Yes, indeed, a little research never hurts!
