Well the weekend I had been waiting for for over a month finally arrived. My mom and sister had agreed to watch my kids so I could go on a hunt today with the goal of finding 100 coins. I got started at 6 AM and things didn't start off too good. Went to a local school that was stripped bare of any signals. Spent 40 mins there and realized I wasn't going to find anything so I decided to head over to the High School I graduated from. Got out of the car, fired up the Beast and hit a quarter right off the bat! Then a dime and two nickels and two pennies. I proceeded to find 64 more coins in the span of an hour. Only two more quarters though, so I think someone had cleaned the place out of quarters. Found a ton of trash (okay 2 pounds of foil, pop tops, twist off tops, screw tops and pulltabs.) Then I moved to a local park. In 10 minutes I found 10 more coins, mostly nickels and dimes. Then my ex-wife called and told me her mother had passed away and I had to quit and go to my mom's and tell my son. I did not look forward to that task. All-in-all I got to hunt today for three hours and I ended up with 87 coins, four of them being wheat pennies. The value of the coins is not very high but had I been able to hunt until 2 PM like I had planned I think I would have hit 150 at least. :(

The Buffalo nickel about gave me a heart attack until I flipped it over. The Eagle Button was found Saturday night in a neighbor's yard along with the tray of other junk, including the ladder to a play truck.

The little rivets drove me nuts trying to find them and I tried to save the planet with each pulltab I dug and dropped in the recycle box.

The value of the coins is not important...you did the right thing....

Also I am sure now you realize 100 coins..especially if you can hit the right pace is really no big deal...

Also it gives you something to shoot for...I try to get going at a clip of 30 an hour...those are the days I hit 100. I know it is not going to happen if after 3 hours I do not at least have 80...remember I do keep count and try to add ten at end of hunt...my count is always off...today after hunt thought I was at 107, counted in parking lot of park after finding I had a token instead of what I thought was a nickel...I was at 99...had to get back out and find one more coin...finding 100 can be tough...but you will get there...oh I always rely on the pennies to help get me there... :) good luck :) also knowing me at 87 coins like you had...I might of got back out that day! But you did the right thing..

I am planning 2 hunts in one day this fall in the dirt/tot lot whatever it takes to have my second 200 coin day...but I know that will take extending beyond my 3-4 hour max...remember a second trip or just eating lunch at a site may get you over the hump.. ;)

Well I limited myself to 1.5 hours to each of my three hunt sites. Had I stayed at the school I started at I would have hit the 100 mark easily. The only coins that weren't there were quarters. I got 7 of my 9 nickels there. Lots of copper pennies and of course zincs.

The area I hunted at was about 20 ft by 40 ft and I managed about 60 of my coins from that small an area and I had another area about 10 times that big plus a football field and the side area of the track to work on. Next time I am shooting for 200 and giving myself 5 hours at the school to do it. :) :D ;D

Don't take this wrong but if you can do it then I can too.!!!

Without a doubt...if you have locations with heavy foot traffic sure you can....but 5 hours may not be enough in dirt for 200....40 an hour... unless you have a few coin spills and a lot of surface coins....in tot lot if you have a great spot maybe....I have hit some of the heaviest unhunted tot lots after a few storms and worked them hard digging every signal think the top I pulled was 124. My 202 coin day in dirt was 6 1/2 hours and included a very large coin spill and 43 surface pennies in a row in 25 minutes. I have pulled more then a coin a minute several times this year....thanks to coin spills....but over the course of a good hunt I would say 30 an hour in dirt would be a good amount... The day you shoot for 200 I would allow 7 hours...which would include>>>a damn good location and lunch! ;D ;)

Thank you for your advice and support. I will plan on just that and see what happens. :) :)
