strange Maryland State--- note the strike is full with no loss of details where the copper shows, so not sanded, acid or other post mint alteration. best guess is defective mixing of the clad layer of planchet. there is evidence of peeling around some of the edges where copper & nickel meet. Redbook shows "planchet error" for state issues at $250,
