109 Degrees and Climbing

Yesterday it was 105 degrees in Santa Ana at 5:30 PM and 109 in the valleys...

Santa Ana is only about 10 miles inland from the ocean...beach temps are in the 80's

Its expected to climb another several degrees today...

Brush and forest fires are the worst under these conditions...only needs an off-roaders catalytic converter to spark a brush fire..then thousands of acres will burn...

The worst part is some A-Hole slugging back a beer always begins to start a series of fires...

Hows is the rest of the nation faring?

I know what you're feeling man. I used to live in OC, and usually September/October are bad months for heat, smog, wind and fires. At least it cools off at night. Hang in there.

It's a little better here in central Texas. We finally got some rain. Temps in the mid 90's for the rest of the weekend.

Just outside of Tulsa, OK. I think we have had more rain the past couple of years than I can remember. The lakes are so full the beaches and picnic areas were under water most of the summer. It was cold until mid June and it has already started cooling way down at night. Looks like an early winter to me. Monty

Finally starting to cool down here in central New Mexico, (upper 80's). Finally getting some rain and the detector is starting to hum in anticipation of cooler weather ahead.

Mike...understand that the Azusa fire is totally under control...

Now we have the La Canada (la-con-yada) Flintridge fire thats totally out of control...understand there about 2800 firefighters at work with many now coming from other states including New Mexico.

What I learned today is that each fireman wears his station clothes covered with another protective layer and additionally weighted down with canteens and other gear in triple-digit heat...must be like a steam sauna...that would be physically draining...

I applaude their skill and efforts... :thumbsup:
