came across an old wooden box from my wifes dad during his travels as photo recon in the army air corps. all foreign coins from denmark, italy, africa, india, australia, phillipines, china, before ending up in okinawa. 11 silvers out of the 24 coins. hh all.

Very cool Mark and with family history to go along with it :icon_thumright: By chance any pics?

Nice! Did either the Australian or Philippines coins have an S mint-mark? The US, San Diego mint, minted coins for several countries during WWII era. I don't remember which all, but I know both those 2 countries were among them. I have a 1948 Australian 3-pence which has an S mint mark.

Now that's some comfy hunting!

Finding silver under dust or dirt is an AWESOME find Mark.

the s mint mark for the phillipine coins in WW2 was "S" for San Francisco * not san diego ::) ;D
