That is neat !!!d2

The log looks neat. Did you saw the one end smooth to see if the rock had opalized or just to get it to stand up?

Actually after locating it in the swamps it was way to heavy to lug outta the swamps alone so I hired some local rockheads from the area to pop in with a jeep..wench it up the creek bank and through the woods for a small piece of the find...their is an old relic hunter near by with several rock saws that will gladly cut your stuff for ya for a piece........it took 2 seperate cuts to sever it.he did a bang up job matching the cuts on a 12inch rock saw..........He was really cool.

You sure are finding some neat stuff on your hunts. Congrats.

Burdie

Thank you Birdie but it wasnt easy.the swamps are harsh and very dangerous!! And to Christopher....Im just holding it til I die or I get a good offer that will convince me to part with my old friend.........lol No maternal bonds here!!

I also have a huge piece of petrified wood I found in a small creek in Missouri while out looking for points. It weighed over 240 lbs. I rolled it by hand up a slight hill for about 150 yards till I got it to the road side, then found that I could lift it (barely), but not high enough to get it into the bed of the company truck. I had to put it back behind a tree, cover it with brush and go get a low bed trailer before I could move it home.

When I moved from Missouri to Orlando, I brought it with me, or rather the movers did. Should have seen their faces when I said, "Oh, that big rock there goes too."

I will include pictures tomorrow if Sir Digs dosn't object to my posting them on his thread.

Not at all I would be happy to see it............I strapped mine in my passenger seat when I left the wife there..and me and my lopsided K-car set out for New Mexico....so I know how ya feel............lol

Interesting........Looks like its been through hell........lol
do ya know what it is or how old?
and what state did you find it again>>??

It is petrified wood. I found it in the woods of central Missouri, between Columbia and Rocheport while I was out hunting for arrowheads. It was in the bank of a very small creek that emptied into a large stream. I use to find a lot of arrowheads in that area along that stream, most likely it was a camp area. I found several other smaller pieces with it, but this is the largest piece.

It was extremely hard to get it home as it weighed so much. I had to roll it a good distance up a slight hill then down another to get it to the roads edge, no way to get to it with anything but a 4 wheeler and I didnt own one.

Once I got it to my truck I found it was so heavy, I could dead lift it, but not lift it high enough to get it in the bed of the truck or the floorbard of the passenger side. Had to hide it and go home and get a small flat trailer that was low.

thats neat
you know how much its worth

No I dont and would like too!!!............Any Ideas anyone???????????

Petrified wood, usually brownish i commonly see for couple bucks a pound. That's if it has good shape and can be used as display material. The material from Arizona with colors, usually strong red or even greenish with red can bring 15 to 20 bucks a pound.

Congratulations to both you and Treasure_hunter for your finds. Can you image how many peps saw it and didn't know what it was? Or bumped into it in the water and thought it was something ordinary?

Great finds,
