Went metal detectecting in the old silver tailings around here and I got a great signal on the F75. It came in at around 67 on the screen. Oh great another piece of tin i thought to myself. Oh well, dig everything because you never know what it might be. After about 35 minutes of digging and having the hole collapse in on me many times I finally saw the target. It was a nice pink coloured rock. That is a good sign since around here a lot of silver has Cobalt in it. That is one of the ways the miners would find silver veins back in the old days. Anyways, after finally digging it out, I couldn't lift it out of the hole. It was too heavy for me. It was also a very deep hole. I had to get a ratchet strap from my truck and pull it out of the hole. It is so heavy that I could hardly carry the thing over the tailings piles and through the bush. I ended up dragging it most of the way with the ratchet strap which finally gave in and broke apart from the abuse. I ended up rolling/carrying it the rest of the way. When I got home I found out the true weight of it. It weighs over 150 lbs. I still have to clean it up. It has cobalt and calcite in it and I estimate it to be at least over 75% silver. I rubbed it up a little bit to show some of the silver. It still has to be cleaned. :hello2:

:notworthy: Wow!!...CONGRATS....you the man. Great job on getting that "Big Boy" back to the house in one piece. I know you had to have gotten mentaly :tongue3: pumped up after finding that chunk of silver.

.75x 153 = 114.75x16 = 1836x35$ = 64 THOUSAND DOLLARS. Someones getting a new car and detector if your correct about this

Time and again I have read "That's why I dig it all". Dude you dared to believe that at the bottom of one of your "Hyper Diggs" could be a sweet find. Way to go.

Ya I know. I gotta go and find my own now.

Cryptic-Being a rock hound/detectorst/gem collector and many other things. I must say you have found something I could only dream of! Best part is I went cave exploring yesterday with my best friend and we started talking about finding things with detectors. To say the very least he thinks it's a waste of time. I told him you could find gold and silver if you knew where to look. I even brought up "old tailing piles' and he said "BS if there was even anything there in the first place you'd be a moron to search it". I will let you know how he thinks the crow he eats here in a few minutes tastes! LOL
Seriously that has to be one of the coolest finds I have yet to see! I would love to have a small sample of it myself to show the guy! I'll pay you for it!
CONGRATS MAN!!!!!! Keep swinging!!!!

Many prospectors hunt the tailing piles around here and turn up very good quality specimens. Here is a very informative post about metal detecting for silver and shows some impressive finds! All the pieces were found in a tailings pile including a 100+ lb native silver in calcite specimen. Show that to your friend and see what he says! :)

Wow! That rock, ROCKS!!! :headbang: Big time! I think I'd have to pay a smelter to process it and pour me a bunch of 1 troy pound bars...just to have! Very nice!

I make it out at between $40000 and $45000 in silver before melt costs. Maybe $38000 take home. Oh yeah, most definitely banner.

Wow, Congrats Cryptic, very nice.
I have increased my knowledge of silver from reading this thread. I will have to check the stone pile on my farm over more closely now. We get all kinds of different rocks that were mostly pushed by the glaciers and left here in the fields in Michigan.

Always looking to get some more . Let me know .

Now I dig pits but that is crazy rock hounding!! Holy Smokes that is for sure Banner Material. Congrats....jgas

Personally even if the assay came back negative I think it should stay up. Money comes and goes, but for me treasure hunting is about the excitement and commraderie of the thing, the journey as others have said. This find sums all that up pretty well. Congrats! So what's the results already!?! Oh and the gps coordinates.
