Discovered in the state of Victoria in an area known as the "Golden Triangle," the gold-filled rock weighs 4.6 kilograms (10.1 pounds), with the precious metal making up 2.6 kilograms (5.7 pounds). The guy in the photo is not the one who found it (they remain anonymous):

"The media called the finder an amateur, but equipped with a Minelab Equinox 800 detector he probably had more than just beginner’s luck on his side."

How did they determine the value without the actual weight of the gold?
Yeah.... the gold looks like a very small portion of overall mass / weight to me as well.
I HIGHLY doubt the gold weight... wishful thinking is in play.
I bet gold weight is less than ten ounces... and prolly closer to 5 at best.

Here's an article that has the details on how much gold was in this rock.
Not rocket science really to determine through density testing even.
2.6 KG of gold actually or around 83.5 troy oz.

Thankfully that will never happen though.
