I'm interested in the location of the 1641 Conception wreck north of the Old Bahamas Channel; found by Phips.

I gather that it's on the North Riff, but that's a big place.

Folks have been going there since the 1600's, but I can't scrounge up a large-scale chart.

Anyone have one, or location info? Air photos would be nice.

My interest is academic; I've got no way to get there, and if I did, I'd go somewhere else more attractive. OK to PM me.

Thanks

Unless it has very recently stopped, Concepcion is still being actively salvaged under legal permit from the Dominican Republic.

Any press releases or anything from that?

I actually dove the Concepcion wreck site in Feb. 2007. And I have the location/coordinates saved in my Garmin handheld GPS (together with lots of other wrecks and dive sites). Problem is- I can't get the GPS started and run properly anymore. Don't know if there is a way to read out the memory. Sorry

Hi,
Concepcion wreck site is indeed under the contract with the Dominican governemnt, though it is not being salvaged continuosly (the rest what is remained there after so many expeditions....). You cannot go there legally without permission from ONPCS not taking into account that it is national park and marine sanctuary.
