Went back to a favorite Seneca Indian site yesterday. This is where in 1687 the General Denenville and his army burned this site to the ground. The Jesuit missionaries were active among the Hurons and even other members of the Iroquois league long before they established their first mission among the Seneca in 1656. Their presence and influence is dramatically shown by the discovery of the religious finger rings, crucifixes and medals they rewarded their converts with. I might have found part of a Jesuit medal that has a capital "J" and a couple of pieces of lead.
