One of my new favourites.
Was about to leave since it was already quite late and it started to rain. On my way back I decided to walk over an area that as I thought was cleared of any relevant treasures, since I've been there over and over again.
The last signal made me dance with joy. Found my first signet in a perfect condition. Hope it's not the last one I'll find.

Thanks, it was a very good feeling as I realised, what it was!
I'm quite sure it is 16th century! There is a database for signets with a lot of different examples.
I sent them some pictures and they said it's from the 16th century due to the form of the shield (so called tartschenförmiges Wappenschild..I have absolutely no idea, if there's even an english word for this).

I'm quite sure it's not 16th C for the following reasons:
Yes, the incised shield shape was in use in the 16th C, but according to my Seal Book didn't stop until 1675.
What is more telling is the middle bar topped W (16th C had a double V that crossed in the middle), which unless Germany is different, didn't come into use until the 17th C in Britain.
Lastly the style & shape of the Seal itself has more elements matching it to 17th C examples than 16th C types. Especially the base shape & handle type.

See a similar example above with the 17th C W.
