Are there any shapes of bullets in it? Maybe someone emptied their cartridge box in a fire pit and melted it all!

didn't see any bullets in it, still looking, there is still charcoal imbedded in the back as well, I've never seen anything like it before

If you can document where it was found you may get a good price for it if you want to sell. Just the thought of why it is there is thrilling history!

That probably blew your ears off! Wow!

never found camp lead anywhere near that size, good dig

My mentor dug large hunks of lead that big in Virginia. When soldiers wanted to dispose of a case of bullets, rather than them fall into the wrong hands, they burned them. It isn't common, but it happened. I have an 8 pound chunk from a spot in Virginia which I dug two years ago. Often there are what look like partially melted bullets or the nails from crates still in the lead.

Great find!

Cheers,

Buck

wow, great info, greatly appreciated. Did find small piece of what looks like a nail and a portion of tortious shell, so somebody was eating turtle that night!
