I went out for a short dig today to test out my new (1 day old) XP Deus.

I think I found a 1701 William III halfpenny, such a shame it's so corroded, but at 1701 that makes it my oldest coin so far if it is.

Can't wait to get out on a proper hunt with my Deus, I really like it.

Sorry about the photos it's hard to capture the detail with my phone.

For an very old copper I don't think the condition is half bad really. I do believe i see a 1701. Congrats!

I was just looking at them on line..
Didn't the wiliam the 111s
Have the date at the top on the reverse?

I would have to lean towards it being the 1701 versus the 1700, looks more like the last digit is a 1 and not a 0............... I am sure many more older coins are ahead of you to find. Don

Tuff to get a good pic..

Hey Don can u tell from my pic if it is a wiliam the 111?

It's definitely a WIII halfpenny, RossPeplow. Congrats on a great find! I can tell by the slope of the forehead and nose. I know the coin well, because the 1701 is also my oldest. Here is a pic of mine if it helps...hope it's okay to add.

Wow that's a great example, thank you

Welcome to Tnet.

The profile does look to be Will.

The Deus will find you some great finds, just research & get out on ploughed land.

I agree, William III for sure. I found a 1696 William III last year, my second oldest coin. Also 300+ year old copper, those are hard to find.

Just bought a nokta forcore detector will give it a test tomorrow can't wait has anyone tried one.
