Wow, thats a great find for North America. First German colonial silver Ive seen. What else you finding on that site?

Too many things to list. Square nails, flashing, hinges, spark plug from a 1920’s model T, lots of modern trash too.

So it wasnt a colonial site then?

No it clearly was a colonial site. Shotgun head-stamps date it too.

I may be wrong, but weren't shotgun shells as we know them invented in the late 1800s?

Very unusual find for here in america though. Great hunt!

Yeah I would think you would have to be finding KG copper, tombac buttons, shoe buckle pieces, etc to call it a colonial site. That is unless there is a colonial home on the property or very nearby

A friend of mine showed me some civil war era coins from this site.

Nice coin. German coins pre 1776 are uncommon for sure. I dug this one colonial site with car parts strewn everywhere. It used to be a party place and some cars never made it out alive. It was a bear to hunt.

Man that is sweet - just look at that amazing detail! Is it 1728 or 1727?

Yes! This place is the same way. Old site now a park so junk everywhere. I did find these items tonight too.

Congrats on the 18th century German Silver! I'll bet that was a pretty unexpected coin for New York. :icon_thumright:

Whoops 1727. At first I assumed it was a Reale. I didn’t want to scratch it, so I carefully washed it when I got home. It was deep too. Found near a well.

Very cool, interesting and unique coin. Never seen one. I figured this was going to be found in Europe. I have no idea about the rarity of this coin but I think the cool factor of the coin and place found (NY) should give this some consideration for banner. Well done!

Thanks for looking everyone! This date crushes my own personal best expectations. Up until yesterday it was an 1882 Indian Head Penny!

I agree... I vote banner.

Super find! :occasion14: Here is my oldest German coin found in Sleepy Hollow, NY
