A friend of mine found this on one of our outings last week. We have done some research and found it to be a 1730 French West Indies coin. We pulled many colonial coins/buttons out of this site.

Front reads: LUD XV D G FR ET NAV REX

Back reads: ISLES DU VENT 1730

Isles du vent translates to Isles of the Wind

Figured I would share his find with everyone. Any ideas on value/more info would be great!!

I have found nothing better than a rossie this season.

Nice find,

Keep @ it and HH!!

Great looking coin, I will use my french from school and a little stay there to translate Isles Du Went to
"the windward islands" British colony existing between 1833 and 1960 and consisting of the islands of Grenada, St Lucia, Saint Vincent, the Grenadines, Barbados, Martinique.

The Windward Islands are called such because they were more windward to sailing ships arriving in the New World than the Leeward Islands, given that the prevailing trade winds in the West Indies blow east to west. The trans-Atlantic currents and winds that provided the fastest route across the ocean brought these ships to the rough dividing line between the Windward and Leeward islands.

Now here comes the kicker for your coin I think.

Martinique is the only French Island of the Windward Islands so I think that is where your coin came from.

Anyway cool coin.

Wow, that Colonial wilver is one heck of a find. :headbang: Usually, that would have been a Spanish wilver, so it makes it more special when it is something different. :occasion5: :icon_salut:
