Hit a spot for two hours yesterday that I have hunted many times before, but it has done me well. After digging about $3.00 in late 60s early 70s clad, I headed to the car. On the way out I got a deep mid tone. Hoping it was a button, I dug down about 8 inches and this popped out, a complete surprise. It must have been on it's side or there was something else in the hole I never found that was throwing off the numbers. Either way, I'll take it for my first significant find of the new year, or the last of a great season, however you look at it. The date is clear... 1765, the obverse seems to have some doubling, especially near the II.

Dirt and corrosion makes date reading sometimes a iffy proposition. My opinion is it is a 1730 something date, either a 35 or 36, most likely a 5.. Best I could do with looking at the photo. Comparing with a regal 35 and 36 date. You can see on your coin what you think is a 6, appears to have more of a horizontal line like the 3 does and not like the 6 which curves down right away. Dates on the colonials are hard to determine when it comes to certain number punches, with 3,5,6,7,1 being tough, actually all can be a challenge at times.... :)

That's a really nice old coin. It's 22 years older than my oldest coin.
I love it when they appear in a spot you've probably swung over 50 times. It's always changing.

Seeing it in that fashion makes more sense, I agree it now looks more like a 1735

I agree , I saw a "35" before I read the post. Congrats on a GREAT find! Those KGII will read lower in the ground especially. I had one ring up lower than zinc on the surface yesterday.

Great find, enjoy and happy hunting

Dig it ALL, for sure. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
