Hey yall. First time poster. Been on the site for a while but finally have some worthy stuff to share....

Went out last week with a fellow TNET poster and hit up an old road in the woods near a rev war site in Charleston, SC. I had found some gears from an old clock mechanism as well as some .69 caliber musket balls near the road on past hunts. Tried the same hole where I'd found the clock gears and got another good signal. Started digging, expecting to find more of the clock and a large coin popped out. Very little detail with the exception of a lot of parallel lines on it. Thought it was just a token but on the way back I remarked that they kindof looked like harp strings? Anyway, soaked it in mineral oil and have been able to get enough detail to tell the coin and date now, 1769. Not sure if I should try cleaning it any more. Its pitted in places. First 1700s coin for me. :headbang: Found using a Garrett ACE 250.

Neat history on these coins.

Also posted a pic of some past finds from the site. Musket balls, broken buckles and a musket ball flattened into a poker/craps chip (I believe).

Many of those Hibernia halfpennies were in circulation and I also like finding them. My fav. is a 1773, which is counterfeit, and a pretty rare date.

That brings back good memories. One of my first KGs was a 1760 Hinernia in beautiful condition...and my very first was a HIBERNIA found between the top stones in a foundation. That one was not so nice lol

It looks as though the rims on both sides are protruding higher than normal - is it just light/shadow with the pic .

No, they actually protrude like that. I haven't seen any photos of others like that either.

That is kinda strange. I just looked at mine and they taper down if anything

Is the diameter spot on for what it's supposed to be ? - because a careful and methodical light hammering (tapping ) will produce a
raised rim like that - I've made a coin ring by that method (It's time consuming to say the least )

Congrats on a really nice finds. Good to see treasure coming out of the Carolinas! GL&HH.

Nice find! I havnt found one of those in a long time. Never seen one with the edges like that. HH!

Diameter on this one is 27 mm. Most sites online say that they're 27.8-28 mm.

Nice going on the half penny, and other finds.

Hey that head style didnt come along until 1775 for biz strikes. That must be an old CTF or you need to scrub harder. lol

Good call. Thanks! Sure looks like a 69 to me. Might be an 81? I could put it in the coin electrolysis contraption I built using a cell phone charger, but I'm worried about further degradation.

I wouldnt clean it any further. 81 sounds good.

great finds, like the button too

Congratulations on the coin and relic finds.

Thanks y'all. I've gotta say this site is almost as addicting as the hobby itself. Seeing what other people are pulling out of the ground kinda keeps me going after hours spent digging in the mud with nothing but beer can tabs and fishing weights to show for it. Will try to post more regularly. Those other relics from the site came after a half dozen other trips to it. Planning to buy a reprint map of Charleston from the rev war and mat the musket balls under it in a frame eventually. Would love to find some civil war relics down here but they've proven elusive thus far. Only been detecting for about 6 months so hopefully they'll come with more time.

I found the same coin on a cape cod beach!!! Very interesting mine has no date though but more detail. Nice Find
