Hey yall. First time poster. Been on the site for a while but finally have some worthy stuff to share....
Went out last week with a fellow TNET poster and hit up an old road in the woods near a rev war site in Charleston, SC. I had found some gears from an old clock mechanism as well as some .69 caliber musket balls near the road on past hunts. Tried the same hole where I'd found the clock gears and got another good signal. Started digging, expecting to find more of the clock and a large coin popped out. Very little detail with the exception of a lot of parallel lines on it. Thought it was just a token but on the way back I remarked that they kindof looked like harp strings? Anyway, soaked it in mineral oil and have been able to get enough detail to tell the coin and date now, 1769. Not sure if I should try cleaning it any more. Its pitted in places. First 1700s coin for me.
Found using a Garrett ACE 250.
Neat history on these coins.
Also posted a pic of some past finds from the site. Musket balls, broken buckles and a musket ball flattened into a poker/craps chip (I believe).
