The rain came last night in buckets. The ground in the area of this site had been reduced to dust for weeks, and I had been awaiting a good soaking. Everything at this site that's old starts at 7" so the dry ground made for a tough time.I had to go today!!!

After arriving I quickly plucked a 1892 Indian Head and a early buffalo. Soon after that a very nice eagle button. After that I spent about an hour searching. In a spot I had definitely been over, I had a tone. It was soft and mild, a tone you may associate with something other than a coin. But, the tone was steady and true, reading at 12-46 on my CTX. I dig down and nothing. Rescan, and now it's a nice sharp tone - the kind we like;) still 12-46. I dig a little more, gently, thinking it's an old silver quarter. Pinpoint, get some beeps...brush away the dirt and boom! 1828 large cent! I'm so relieved since it's the first older coin I've found here. I scanned the area after that and with no luck move on.

About 20 minutes later I get a nice crisp tone, but weak, by a rock about 6-7" down. Read 12-41 steady. I'm thinking a Wheatie perhaps since most of the 6" signals were newer. Pull the plug and it's right there. Petite and thin. I immediately knew it was silver and snapped a pic. Good thing I did...because it made for a beautiful in-situ shot of a 1772 Half Real! I pick it up and saw the pillars...yes!!!!!!! Then I see a 72. Woohoo!

What a day, what an ending to my day. It also was the first day that produced old goodies on a site dating back to 1675-1690's.

Happy hunting and stick with it! Wow! Nice hunt, great finds!

Nice hunt. The Spanish is in pretty nice shape.

That's really nice man. The half real/Cufflink I found is a 72. Is that your first Spanish?

Great saves. Rained 20 something days here last month and nothing much for his month so ground is like a brick.

They are similar and "found", but I dug mine. I know you found yours in a coin show. Lol. Thanks Abe and yep, it's my first Spanish Silver.

Thanks Steve. A colonial Real was on my bucket list and one in this condition is just icing on the cake.

Ohhhhhh, I see. You and the Beast from the East have been talking behind my back!?! Lol.

When you going to get your butt down here and hunt with us?

Well now that I've finally seen something kinda old posted I'll consider it. Where's all the 1600s stuff though? That will really get my attention lol

By the way congrats on your first Spanish. I am always very happy to see that come out of the hole. I remember pulling my first and I was psyched

Good looking finds Scraps, even by Abe's standards!
