First time posting on this board..... A few years back I found a 1773 George III Brittania coin. Any idea on value besides personal pride in finding it. I found it while hunting arrowheads. I now use a Bounty Hunter but live two hours from the field I found it in. I found it along a newly dug ditch.

Do you have any idea what this is

In response to the question posted by pd_squires:

You coin is a copy of a 1736 Spanish gold 8 escudos. IF it were the real thing it would be worth $2500-$4000. Happy Hunting, GWW

hmm... it isn't the right color for silver, is it? lol... how can one tell that its a copy?

Here is a picture of a genuine one. http://www.sedwickcoins.com/070416111002.jpg Many copies exist of these since not too many collectors can afford a nice one. If yours were genuine it would likely fetch more than $5000 because it is in fantastic condition. I can tell its a copy just by looking at it. You can weight it. The weight needs to be 27.064 grams. My guess is your copy is close to 1/2 that. Best, GWW

usually they don't come out of the ground in very good shape but I'd look on e-bay for going prices to get a ballpark figure. Copper patina gets pretty nasty after 100 or more years. Still it's a great find!
