Great cufflink found in heavy iron a few feet outside of a cellar hole , probably made to commemorate the first hot air balloon flight in 1783 (On October 15, 1783, Pilatre de Rozier and Marquis d'Arlandes were the first human passengers on a Montgolfiere balloon. The balloon was in free flight, meaning it was not tethered. On January 19, 1784, a huge Montgolfiere hot air balloon carried seven passengers to a height of 3,000 feet over the city of Lyons.)

This is so cool! Thanks for the background info as well

AMAZING!

One of the best scenes from one of my favorite movies is VERY relevant here!

Great cufflink! I have seen these found from time to time and would love to find one myself. Nice that you got a linked pair.

Good dating evidence, as I had always placed these types (size, shape & construction) at circa 1790s:occasion14:

Awesome find ! :occasion14:

thats freakin sweet

Informative research and to get a linked pair is cool.

I found one of the same style many years ago , Patch was the only one to id that it was a "hot air balloon " .

Very nice find ! ~ Good Day indeed ~
