I went back to a colonial site for which I had little hope. I was hoping for just a button or a trinket on this dreary Sunday. It took 1.5 hours to do, but I cleared another 20' x 20' section of heavy bramble, and was rewarded with arguably my rarest coin. A 1783 Nova Constelatio!

Cleaning...

I believe the variety is a "blunt rays" Crosby 3-C.

Besides some pottery and nails, this beauty was my only find. Funny enough with all the iron this signal was almost completely masked even with the Deus. I actually dug out a big hole and found the coin in the pile. Thanks goodness I didn't smoke it with the shovel. I saw the coin in the clump with rays facing out, and immediately shot a video.

Thanks to Ahab8 for the field ID, and to Bill D for the cleaning tips. And to Novanumismatics.com for the attribution. And to Joey for, well, being Joey.

I'm constantly amazed by what is masked by iron, and what's out of reach because of foliage. It's actually quite a wonderful prospect for the future.

Scrappy,

Steve you should be honored for your persistence and perseverance in hunting in the Brambles. That is one heck of a great find. Congrats on yet another Banner. I better bring some depends with me when I go back east. I'm sure I'd have crapped my pants if handed that find to me for a quick look.

Haha thanks Loco. And yep, this spring you'll be digging some copper when we go. Fingers crossed!

Congratulations on a very well deserved BANNER! I'm always terribly impressed with your finds, but this one is out of control...really out of control!!! You did such a great job with the cleaning process. I would have been terrified to even touch it.

I've cleaned a ton of copper, but still needed a little push from an expert buddy. The thing is there's only a couple good ways to clean a copper. After that, and if you're gentle, it just comes down to how it spent it's time in the ground. Oh, and no olive oil. No, ney, never.

I really appreciate that Bill. We all get lucky once in a while I suppose. Cheers [emoji482]

Thanks CDawg. Bushwacking can pay off big sometimes, but man I just wish I knew when! I can't count how many times the Basstards of Bramble have hiked into the middle of nowhere, just to find nada! Lol

What a fantastic, rare find! Great job on the clean up to. Makes me wonder what finds I'm passing up when I give up too soon on heavy brush areas - Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Thanks Tommy. Man, I've basically made it a habit to move trees and limbs, destroy thorns, and crawl into impossible places. One thing I remember is, even in the most beaten spots, most people are lazy. They don't take the time to clear nor get in corners. Anyways, thanks for looking.

Congratulations on such a wonderful coin! The condition is fantastic.

What a beautiful planted copper Scrappy, only took a mere 230+ yrs for some dude with the passion to dig a hole in the brambles to bring it back. Congrats on the coin, banner, and I'm sure it'll keep you warm the rest of the winter.

Thanks, and yes, the stars aligned with a rare coin and condition. I bet I couldn't find this coin again in 5 lifetimes, much less in this condition. Cheers

There's my buddy from the Great White North!

Thanks man, I certainly get enthralled when I think about the circumstances and events leading up to many losses. I think the "dude" remark can also be replaced with "idiot" depending on the circumstances. Honestly I felt like an idiot grooming huge sections of the forest right up until I found that coin;)

Cheers

Wow! Incredible recovery Steve! That will be tough to beat. Cleaned up beautifully as well.

That is an incredible find!!! Truly a Banner find! Well done. HH

Find such a coin is a challenge Cong and a nitro time too ( like the video )The shape is the cherry on the cake. Close to the house probably saved it.
