Hey guys
Curator at the locale historical soceity said i could detect the grounds of the 1785 house. I was super pumped. I have been doing it for the past week. I have been using both my old idx pro and my new dfx. although the relics have been far and in between the coins have been pleantifull. The first day i got a dateless buffalo. alittle while later i dug a silver wartime nickel. I made my way over to the back of the house and got a solid quarter hit on the dfx. I dug down 5 inches and saw a nice rim of silver. It ended up being my second SLQ ever. A real nice 1927.
A few days later i dug 3 mercury dimes 1923, 1936-s, and a 1943 with my idx pro before i switched to my dfx. I walked no more then 5 feet and got a soild quarter hit. I dug down only 3 inches and saw the nicest CT copper ever. Although its worn and alittle scratched ( not by me) you can read all the words. Before i cleaned it you could see the 1788 aswell.
Totals this week at the house.

1788- Connecticut copper
2- Buffalo nickels one dateless the other 1918
2 -silver wartime nickels 1942-p and 1944-p
3- mercury dimes
1-1927 Standing Liberty Quarter
1-1935 washington quarter
1- 1936 British one penny
thanks for lookin

Excellent day of hunting, that Standing quarter is pristine.

Re: Curator said i could detect the 1785 house..results....

The Standing Liberty is nice. I thought you would have found more because of the age. Keep at it. I'm sure that there is more there.

Re: Curator said i could detect the 1785 house..results....

Stupid rookie question/comment. Might it be because of the age that he hasn't found much? I've noticed from reading this site that the age of the items he's found are typical for searching antique sites. Is it possible late 1800's and early 19XX is the max depth most detectors can reach and more items lie deeper due to the age?

That is unique! I just noticed that the scratches are intentional. HIM or WIH and something drawn on...a mystery.

Wow, a SLQ with a date and an awesome copper to boot !!!!

The Connecticut copper is really cool, especially with it being personalized by someone. Hopefully, research will show who W.I.H is? That would be really cool....

Congrats....

That is a bonus having the coin personalized by someone from the past, perhaps you could get lucky and figure out who WIH might have been, if related to the original homesite, but than again it could have come from other locations, being circulated about.

I looked this morning at numerous 1788 varieties of Conn coppers, and thought I might have had it, but just could not get an exact match. Then I looked at your coin with some modifications to the reverse side and saw what looked more like a 7 than an 8. So, I started looking through the zillion varieties of 1787 and think I have a match, at least about 99% sure, one or two little possible differences have me hedging just that 1%.

I am fairly certain, and again, this variety is interesting in its self, since the engraver started to make the coin a Fugio Cent, the letters FU were already punched when he realized the mistake and then overpunched with the I N in INDE. So your variety appears to be a 1787 Miller 32.5-aa , not a money maker variety but an interesting variety for sure. Combine that information with the letters that are scratched on at a few places and you have one interesting coin for your collection.

Read the description on the Stacks auction site URL I have attached.
