Nice find! Congrats! I don't see too many colonial French coins on here. Keep it up and HH! :icon_thumright:

You have good reason for such a big smile!

Sent from my iPad using TreasureNet

Great find !!
Can you make out the mint mark found immediately to the right of the date?
If should be one or two initials. If two letters, they may be 'blended' together.
Don.......

It looks like an "A" to the right of the date.

First one I have seen, nice find.:icon_thumleft:

I've found Spanish, Canadian, and British silver, but never French Silver! Fantastic find!!!!

Not silver, and that's what my question is to the poster... Were you fooled thinking it was silver? We've dug a couple here over the years that you'd swear were silver coming out of the ground, but were not. I can't think of another coin that has ever fooled us like that.

What a gorgeous find Lcb24kt. Congratulations!!!! High five

Nice find Lcb24kt!

That's pretty neat!

Seems its bronze. I did some research last night. I thought silver at first glance myself because copper in the ground that long would have been pretty toasty, here's a link to the site France 2 sols 1792 a France - coins - Catawiki
The ones we dug, and probbaly like the one posted here, sure don't look anything like a typical copper. There must be zinc or something else mixed in. They come out almost like dug tombac, slick and grey.

Pretty Wild! Those old roads / trails are good hunting spots!

Congrats on a great recovery. You don't see many French Sols posted here at all. I would have guessed it was silver too. Thanks to IP for the clarification.
