I've been searching for a colonial site for the last two afternoons after work. The site is not in regards to anything on a map, but just the suitability of the land and it's location. It's quite vast, but I've narrowed a 100 acre area down to a few acres that may hold the site. Today I had a perfect signal and swore it off as too good. Then out popped a liberty cap...

Also found were some Indians including a fattie and an 1875. The usual flat button assortment including a holed one, a sickle piece, and a few round balls.

The Liberty Cap wanted to flake immediately and started to self destruct. However I did some damage control and coated it with an Elmer's mixture to stabilize it. Thanks to Crusader for the tip on one of his posts. She looks alright, all considering.

Enjoy and good hunts. Hopefully I'll locate a site soon.

Another killer coin buddy! Anytime you can get an ID off a copper its a win... add a date and its even better. Huge congrats on a killer coin. :occasion14:

I've been seriously detecting for about 8 years, over a 24 year period and I've never dug a single Liberty cap... so I don't want to hear it :laughing7:

That image is of the 1796 Half Cent on the pcgs site. The LC isn't as rare, but still has some value and is still a killer coin.

The Large cent link: Flowing Hair Large Cent (1793-1796) Value - PCGS Price Guide

Dashing my dreams again Brad!!!!! Cheers buddy

Me either you spoiled little jerk! That's a killer coin my friend. I can't seem to get back further than 1797 on the LCs. I have a pile of those. But my new strategy should get me into so e early 1800s coins

Thanks buddy. Any liberty cap is wicked hard to find. My WTF moment was when I wiped the coin off expecting to see a matron head. Anyway, yep, that new strategy of yours aught to work out well. There's going to be a ton of Lib Caps awaiting you

Scrappy,, I am totally in awe of how you can go out and whittle down a couple of hundred acres to just an acre of a 1700's homesite. Your research skills are incredible. Congats on one sweet coin.

The chances of that being a 96 are almost zero but you ARE the luckiest SOB so it probably is a 96. FU Steve!!!

Haha Joey. F me! Lol. Like I was saying, 96 or not, any liberty cap is a good one to me;) Cheers buddy

That's what I get for looking up values 10 minutes after waking up lol

:laughing7: When I try to read something after waking up, I do the same thing! Also, the site is confusing since the HC and LC links are under the same category and it has the Liberty Cap LCs under a link named "Flowing Hair". :dontknow:

That's a great find Steve, regardless of what Jealous Joey says :laughing7: .

Haha. I maintain it's mostly luck. Recently I found a pony shoe, texted a couple friends a pic, and they said it fell out of my arse. Dunno.

Thanks for looking Bud.

That Joey is something else, but the door swings both ways. I almost swallowed my computer mouse when I saw that last Cob he found.

Thanks for the kind words Bill. That Lib Cap made my summer. Cheers

F. I must admit that I am jealous. You've made some great finds. U.

She looks beautiful, congrats!

Congrats on the rare-to-dig old copper.

I missed this post the other day Scraps. Congrats on the '94. When I saw the pic on text, I "thought" that it was a liberty cap, but just wasn't sure.

That's a nice OLD coin.

Congrats on a nice assortment of finds! :occasion14:

Thanks Tom. Yep, liberty cap bud. You see a 94 too? I don't know for certain but they may have changed the weight in 1795. The 1794 I found three years ago was thicker. Dunno?

Yup, toasted...but great find!
