Starting last fall I began detecting some colonial fields. Today the farmer was out tilling and as I walked along with my detector I seen the big fat green patina rim sticking out of a clump of dirt. Here is a cell phone pic. It still has detail to it and right now I'm soaking it in olive oil. Maybe tomorrow a better picture will take place :)

...ok, updated with pics. Thought I'd see a bit more detail to it but at least it's identifiable :)

Congrads, a great find. :hello2:

Found one many years ago...in the mid 70s.

sweet. I just love those pics of finds 'insitu'

cool never seen a coin garden before, now if you can figure out where to get the seeds

Thanks guys! I've only got just a couple flat buttons out of that location and I've covered it pretty good but I'll keep at it more and hopefully come up with more :)

Thanks! I added a couple of pics above.

Really cool find man! Congrats.

Nice find! I found a cartwheel about 5 years ago, but mine is so worn smooth, I can just about make out the inner rim. I know it's a cartwheel by it extra large size. WTG!

I guess I'm going to put it back in the olive oil for awhile and keep watch of it. I hear it may take 6 months to really clean it nice.

Cool find. Thank you for sharing it with us. Paul :)

That coin is a long way from home! The cartwheel pennies were very unpopular when they were issued, because of their weight and size, the weight was 1 ounce which was the value of the copper. The coins all had the same date of 1797.
Nice to find. Hutch

Hey Chris......Very nice find. Did this come from the same area you have been searching? Where the belt plate came from? You will have it at the meeting next weekend I would assume.
