Hi fellow TNetters. This is my first post and I am already asking for assistance for a coin I dug last summer. Some people, huh?
Anyway, a little history on my request. I was introduced to this wonderful hobby by fellow members The Fog and BrianW a couple years ago. I can't thank them enough. I have been able to have a lot of fun and find a lot of great treasures of history because of them.
As far as the large cent goes, I love this coin! Not only because of the coin itself, but this is the first old coin I have found completely on my own. My very first site that I did all of the research etc.
I was wondering if anyone out there may know the variety of this coin? I have tried to do a little research on my own, but have found it extremely difficult and have no idea. The Fog told me I should post it on here for assistance, so I figured I would give it a shot. Thanks for looking!

I am not an expert by any means but in looking at the 2014 Redbook it looks like a type 2 which has the extra curl over the shoulder. Doesn't look like an 8 over the 7 date. Probably in F-12 condition because there is wear over the brow area and some of the immediate hair in this area is worn fairly well. This would value it at $250. If it grades in VF-20, it would bring the price to $575. It is borderline on the condition and so a dealer would usually value it lower. The spot that hurts the coin is above the ear and immediately behind the right eye. Some hairlines are not visible.

I wanted to add that the reverse is in excellent condition considering the details in the leaves, but the ground damage closer to the edge would also grade it lower.

Most people spend a lifetime looking a coin of that age and value.

Congrats on great looking Draped Bust Large Cent. They are rarely found in that condition. Good job cleaning it as well.

Very nice 1st solo find in great condition. As if you weren't already addicted to this hobby, a find like this is certainly cause for motivation to get out there again ASAP.

hard to find copper in that shape coming out the ground!Very nice find!

If only all LC's would come out of the ground in such wonderful condition. I am sure I don't have to tell you that you have a site that requires some thorough detecting over many trips! Thank you for pics of a rare find.
