Hello Chris, they were given as change to customers. At that time in England there was no official regal copper coinage.The coinage was mostly silver the smallest being the penny. In 1672 a copper halfpenny was issued, this and legislation brought an end to the practice of traders issuing there own tokens. 17th century traders tokens have now become very collectable. and are one of my favourite type of finds.seger98 said:Neat find, what was the token for?
