Looks like I'm finding buttons lately. Walked into the woods and popped this up in 5 minutes. Only had a half hour and didn't find anything else, but this was worth it. From what I can find out, it's a Federal Navy officers button from the early 1800's. Maybe someone here can help. It's convex and on the back it says Treble Gilt with 7 stars. Might be hard to see in the picture, but there are 16 stars on the front. I found one that looked close, but the shield was not as oval, a bit wider and not as tall.

Good find, you only need one if it is a good one.

With a back mark probably mid 1800s, But admit no button expert.

Backmark: "TREBLE GILT / ORANGE" rm between two solid rings, mold seam splits the shank, one part convex button, back is concave, ca 1820's,

Button backmarks, "Treble..".
