1800 Draped Bust Large Cent

I was getting cabin fever so I decided to go out and brave the cold. I needed some exercise. I followed a trail of iron that lead my to this early bust coin. I believe it is a type 2 hair. I understand that there are 27 different varieties of the 1800 Bust Cent. I'm hoping that one of the professionals here can attribute it. Thanks for any input. Stay warm and Safe!

It was not an easy one to get a quick variety ID on, but I think thanks to the attribute that I could see I got it! Looks like a Sheldon 212 Rarity 3 Scarce I believe. The Spike on the inner side of the letter C in CENT was diagnostic for me to say that is what your coin is. Nice getting a largie in January!

Nice find…..think I know where this conversation will go, but have to ask. How did you clean it? Have found a few that cleaned/came out pretty and green, but the soil here eats copper and I normally end up with the “purple/burgundy” look. That’s with olive oil, toothpick, Andre pencils and water (not all on same object obviously).

Thank you Don! You are fantastic at identifying early American coins. It looks like it used to be an R-4 but I guess too many turned up over the years and now it's an R-3.

I used coincare and Q tips to conserve it. I just heated the coin up a little with a little coincare on it and then worked it with Q tips. It took about 10- 15 times to get most of the crud off.

Cannonball….thank you very much for the insight. Never heard of that material. Appears to work very well for you and coins found in your area.

Not to discount your experiences (obviously successful) but would love to hear some feedback from others with other soil conditions who have used the product.
