1800's Cellar Hole Gadget..UPDATE

At an old cellar hole, near an 1861 Indian Head and a 1833 Large Cent comes this interesting looking gadget. It looks like it could be half of a small set of tongs? Or.......any wag's appreciated but i have a feeling someone here will nail this one in no time..

Went back to the cellar hole today and found two more pieces to the wick trimmer/snuffer gadget

It's half of a pair of egg scissors. They were used to cut the tops off soft boiled eggs. :)

Oh wait. The flat bit is turned the wrong way for that. Wick scissors ?

I agree... called "candle wick trimmers" Great ID Caryl!

They also act as snuffers...

Nice find! Now see if you can go back and find the other half. (A friend of mine found half a pair of hames at a cellar site and one of these days I'm going back to see if I can find the other half.)

Thanks! I'm headed back there this evening with that very thought in mind to find the other half. What's a "pair of hames"?

Part of a harness for horses used to pull wagons and such. There was one on each side of the neck that was kind of an s shape and most generaly had a knob or ball on the top.
