1800's farm site produces a few keepers and an Old Privy find

Good evening everyone,

Another warm day in Central Ohio but that did not stop me from gaining permission to hunt a 1876 area where a home used to be. Using my old maps from 1876, I was able to find where a brick home used to stand. The debris field is visible everywhere. Glass, brick and pottery shards. It was tough hunting with the wind blowing and the corn stubble still standing. I didn't hunt it too long as I had another place I wanted to hunt. The field has not been prepped yet for planting. I'm sure there should be some pre-1900 coins lurking somewhere, but today I had to settle for a 1925 Wheat, 3 old shotgun shell bottoms, an old buckle of some kind, another kind of buckle (whatsit)?? Also found an old gas lantern top, and some king of hand gun casing. Looks like it is probably modern. While hunting I found a brick lined hole which I'm sure is an old privy. It is square, brick-linned and about 30x20. What do you think??

Keep swingin'...... the good stuff is calling your name.

If that is a privy, there should be a house site near by.

There was one many years ago. I found the site and the privy. It was filled in with dirt up to the top. I think I'll have to do a privy dig here ::)

I am in agreement!
And that privy has not been dug well enough.
They were MUCH deeper!

I'd definitely probe and dig the privy. As for the rest of the place, I'll bet you've only scratched the surface thus far. Let us know what else you run across out there.

I have found quite a few old ones since last year. I love finding the different types.

Ron,

There has to be more at that site. Keep that Ace fired up and see what you can come up with! You made some great finds already, but the best is still to come, I bet.

HH,

I just haven't spent much time back there as the corn stubble sticking up 2 feet makes it hard to swing. The debris is everywhere and I knoe the house was there by using my old survey map of 1876

20 X 30 what? Inches or feet? If feet, then I'd say cellar hole, if inches, then definately privy. Nice finds......NGE
