1800's Navy badge??

I found this the other day, it appears to be military in origin, though I won't dismiss that it could just be from some kids play set from way back when.

I've found lots of mid 1800's items from the property I found this at, the style and make of it says 1800's to me.

I'm just wondering exactly what it is, is it indeed military in origin, if so what branch of the military, and what date range did it originate from?

Thanks for the assistance.

That is a beauty! Can't help with an ID yet, but that is a very nice relic.

It appears to me to be an applique from a child's navy style hat or uniform. I do not believe it is official US Navy. Old U.S. insignia has either screw backs or thin wire attatchments, not ribbon metal.
